Nelson John Acosta, PE, Honored by Leading Professional Organization

Nelson Acosta was selected for inclusion in Cambridge Publishing's "Industry Experts" book

    CLAREMONT, CA, July 18, 2011 /Engineering PR News/ -- Nelson John Acosta, Manager of Engineering and Technical Services for the HMT Inspection Division of HMT Inc., was recently selected for inclusion in Cambridge Publishing's Top 101 Industry Experts book. A respected authority on aboveground storage tanks (ASTs), Mr. Acosta has enjoyed a comprehensive 40-year career in storage tank fabrication, inspection and repair. Drawing upon an all-encompassing knowledge of his field, he performs an assortment of vital tasks for inspection company HMT. This includes reviewing the technical content of inspection reports worldwide, ensuring that evaluations are correct from an engineering standpoint, conducting inspector training, and participating in national standards groups. Mr. Acosta considers his background in AST construction to have been especially helpful in his current work of evaluating and maintaining tanks, and attributes his success to the quality of his education and the depth of his experience.

Mr. Acosta is a registered professional engineer in the states of Illinois, California and Florida. Additionally, he is a certified API 653 aboveground storage tank inspector, certified API 510 pressure vessel inspector, certified API 570 piping inspector, certified API tank entry supervisor, and certified adjunct AST inspector through the Steel Tank Institute. Mr. Acosta received a master's degree in civil engineering in 1970 and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1969, both from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Actively involved in his industry, Mr. Acosta maintains affiliations with the American Society of Civil Engineers, ASME International, the American Petroleum Institute's Subcommittee on Aboveground Storage Tanks, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers' Standards Bulk Solids Committee. Fulfilled by his accomplishments and service to his profession, he plans to retire within the next few years.
