David G. Perkins Honored for Accomplishments in Design Engineering
Saddled with spina bifida since childhood, David G. Perkins built an enduring career by turning negatives into positives
SILVER CITY, NM, April 09, 2010 /Engineering PR News/ --David Perkins, who retired as Design Engineer from Raychem Corp., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of design engineering
David Perkins enjoyed a fruitful 36-year career in manufacturing, concluding it at Raychem Corp., a producer of cables and insulators and many other high-tech devices. Best noted for his expertise in engineering, he was responsible for product and equipment design, tool and die making, staffing, the assemblage of high-tech electronic components, and the building of connectors for the U.S. Navy. In the course of his career at Raychem, Mr. Perkins was involved in the design of the Trident Missile and obtained two patents which, along with the company, were bought by Tyco and General Electric.
Saddled with spina bifida from childhood, Mr. Perkins attributes the success that he found despite his handicap to his ability to turn negatives into positives. Challenged by a reading disability, he instead focused on his drawing and design skills, which later enabled him to device a range of unique products and equipment for Raychem. He completed his training at a school for the handicapped in Southern California.
In retirement since 2000, Mr. Perkins spends most of his time managing accounting, finances and building planning for a local school. He currently sits on the board of directors of CCA Private School, which places a strong emphasis on teaching "self government."
