Hisham Z. Sliman Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Computer Science and Engineering
Hisham Z. Sliman has presented and co-presented papers at prestigious industry conferences
LOUISVILLE, KY, March 23, 2010 /Engineering PR News/ --Hisham Z. Sliman, Ph.D. Student at the University of Louisville, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in computer science and engineering.
A full-time student at the University of Louisville, Hisham Z. Sliman is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in computer science and engineering, with a concentration in image processing. Rapidly gaining a reputation as an expert in computer science, analysis and C++ programming, he has presented and co-presented several papers at a number of prestigious industry conferences. These include "Improving VC-1 in Loop Deblocking Filter" at the 2009 International Conference on Image Processing, Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition in Las Vegas and "All-zero Block Detection in VC-1" at the IEEE Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems in Cancun, Mexico. Mr. Sliman presented his first published paper, "Advanced Motion Estimation Techniques for VC-1," in 2007 in his native Egypt, at the IEEE International Symposium on Signal Processing and Information Technology.
Diagnosed a few years ago with multiple sclerosis, Mr. Sliman was inspired to choose his major after meeting an engineer in his class who also had MS. Drawn by the challenges and the mobility of the profession, he went on to complete a master's degree in electrical engineering, with a concentration in video processing applications, in 2008 at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. During his time at IUPUI, Mr. Sliman worked as a teaching assistant at the Purdue School of Engineering & Technology, helping students with Motorola DSP, the catapult program and C++ programming. He was named Student of the Year for 2007 to 2008. He attributes his success to the support that he receives from his parents.
Mr. Sliman earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 2004 from Ain Shams University in Egypt and, prior to coming to the United States, honed his skills as an electrical design engineer and maintenance engineer. He has been honored with induction into the Golden Key International Honour Society and is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery. Mr. Sliman looks forward to completing his Ph.D. in 2012 and aspires to become a professor, teaching image processing and patent recognition, within the next five years.
