Aaron M. Smith Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Gas Turbine Engineering & Machine Design

Aaron M. Smith specializes in ensuring the smooth delivery of electricity

TAMPA, FL, November 11, 2010 /Engineering PR News/ -- Aaron M. Smith, Parts Engineer for Progress Energy, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in gas turbine engineering and machine design.

Aaron M. Smith has 10 years of experience in the field, with one year of experience as parts engineer for Progress Energy. He is responsible for conducting technical reviews to repair gas turbine components, managing the cost of productivity, ensuring profit, and validating repair vendors' work scopes, cycle times, and costs. The most gratifying aspect of his career is supplying electricity by ensuring that all operations are running smoothly. Progress Energy is an electric utility that provides electricity and complex repair solutions.

Mr. Smith became involved in his profession because he always enjoyed taking things apart and fixing them as a child, which he later found out was a key component in engineering. Prior to joining Progress Energy, he worked as a gas turbine repair catalog manager for General Electric. He attributes his success to his father for recognizing his talent and motivating him to excel. Mr. Smith holds two patents for an anti-tipping mechanism for Snap-on Incorporated, and a cooling water monitoring system for General Electric Company. The highlight of his career was participating in the installation of the first 7H steam cooled gas turbine, General Electric's most efficient 60Hz gas turbine.

Mr. Smith received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering in 2001 from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
